Bad News Brown

8 Jul

After two hours of whining in the car we finally made it to Lancaster this past weekend. Shiloh was a terror the entire car ride there.

While there she massacred a toy that didn’t belong to her and then promptly passed out

After returning home today they both were exhausted and passed out together. Not before another agonizing ride home in the car. She amazes me with her ability to be simultaneously the best and worst dog in the world.

Mr. Man

18 Apr

While this blog is named for the brown dog… there is another who steals our hearts. This sweet boy came to us later in his life, and puts up with a lot of crap from the brown dog, and remains so sweet and innocent.

He sat there today practically voguing for me. I love that I got to capture his crazy coat on camera. I gave him a bath last Friday and he dries curly in some places, straight in others. He looks a little like a lion to me!  He is a Golden Retriever even though his coat is more red and curly.

I love every inch of this crazy boy! His elbow has a lump but no worries, its just fluid build up because he dives down on it for his favorite part of the day – butt scratches. Look how straight his belly hair is! People ask us if he’s an Irish Setter or try to tell us that he’s not a golden.

I don’t really know, he could be something other than a Golden, but his heart is pure gold, and so are his modeling skills. Look how he maintains his pose while the Chocolate One is pushing him away.

Bad to the Bone

12 Apr

I got the dogs bones last night and they are both totally absorbed in trying to get all the peanut butter filling out. So admittedly I wasn’t paying much attention to what they were chomping on. I got up and noticed someone had snuck into the kitchen and stolen the oven mitt.

I love the tongue sticking out in that photo, Mmmm tasty oven mitt. I realize I haven’t provided much supporting evidence that the brownie is bad. Well here is some. She continued chewing while I took photos.

She looked at me like, I just can’t help it. It’s in my genes!

And then she went back to chewing. Seriously these photos are in order. She knows she’s bad, but she just can’t help it! When I put down the camera we played a little game of keep away while she ran in circles around the dining room table and the living room coffee table until I finally did the normal trick and pulled one chair out and chased her the other way. She was trapped and the mitt was surrendered.

Oh Shiloh… thanks for putting that free oven mitt out of its misery and reminding me not to take life so seriously.

Bad Mommy

30 Mar

I have a confession to make.

My dog is bald and I am to blame. Look at the bald patch on her back!

I don’t believe in using chemicals if you don’t have to, so we try to give the dogs healthy and natural food, and avoid chemicals if possible. WIth flea and tick season fast approaching I picked up our normal flea and tick protector – Natural Defense by Sentry.  This is made of essential oils and smells like a Chai Latte. Usually Shiloh gets a little flaky from it but for some reason, her hair fell out where I put it this year! She got wicked flaky and then her hair fell out! I feel so terrible! I guess some irritation is better than what the real chemicals might actually do but I do feel horrible! I don’t know what to do for flea and tick prevention next time!  Sam is doing just fine though.

I spent some time taking pictures tonight and some I am very pleased with, while others show off the bad brown dog attitude. Obviously in the photo below, she was annoyed that the treats were done for the night.

Shiloh and the Peony…

This one is potentially heading for a place in the header of the blog.

It is so hard to capture their eyes properly! I’m open to any tips about how to photograph these wild beasts. I have a few settings I tried on the camera that helped a little but its not perfected by any means.

Then we went inside and tried using treats to pose.

And we had an awkward moment when the treat was released…

Why Bad Brown Dog?

20 Mar

Why not? We have two dogs, one Chocolate Lab, one Golden Retriever and a little tiny black cat. The cat is rarely heard from except in the middle of the night as she walks across your face, the Golden is our angel boy who joined us just a year ago although he is 7. Among his nicknames is “My Buddy” which leaves us with the Chocolate Lab, who is known as “Kid Sister”. She is a 4 year old with attitude. Stubborn and mischievous she reminds us not to take life so seriously when she steals the dish towel and runs in circles around the dining room. She jumps up on the couch she is not supposed to be on and immediately puts her face in your lap to try to convince you to let her stay. She steals whatever toy or treat the Golden has, even if she has the same exact one, and she hops up on your lap and licks your face when you cry. Yeah, she’s bad and the stories are many, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.
